When it comes to drying your hair it really is all about preference, practicality and the style you aim to achieve. Without question by allowing your hair to dry naturally you are giving your hair the best option when it comes down to minimising damage. However, there are times when air drying simply isn’t either quick enough or practical.
Air drying the hair tends to be favoured by those with either really short hair, which naturally dries quickly anyway, or by those with long curly or wavy hair. Long hair obviously requires a lot of heat being applied with a hair drier and can ultimately result in the hair becoming dry and brittle as a result of over exposure to high temperatures. Air drying is by far the healthiest option when it comes to preserving healthy looking locks but you must be careful not to rub the hair too hard with a towel nor brush it too hard. Hair no matter what length is at its most vulnerable when wet or damp.
Blow drying the hair is by far the quickest drying option and by using a hand held drier you can achieve the best results when it comes to styling. However, the heat after prolonged and continued use will undoubtedly dry out the hair shafts making it prone to splitting and breakages. Care must therefore be taken to prevent unwanted damage. It is always a good idea to use a hair drier at a low temperature after blotting the hair with a towel as much as possible after washing. Use a moisturising conditioner that will lock in moisture and keep the hair from becoming too dry from excessive heat and always hold the drier at least six inches away from the hair and never for too long in the same spot.
